I drove up to our office a few Sundays ago to unload my equipment from the weekend. We are currently renovating our offices because we’ve decided to use the space differently moving forward as I continue to run the business from home. This week we had a few new shipments come in and so I wanted to take a peak around to see how it was coming together.

I was the only one there so I paused to listen to the silence to see if it could tell me something. There were so many fun memories in these 4 walls. When I launched Our DJ Rocks 10 years ago, I signed the lease within 10 months of opening. As you can imagine, there isn't much it hasn’t seen. If only walls could talk.

At that moment, I was flooded with emotion and the thought of joy.

I walked to the back room and grabbed a frame that displayed an article that the Orlando Business Journal featured us in. The title: Orlando’s Only All-Female DJ Firm in the US.

What significance does that even hold anymore? With so many life events that have been cancelled and so many moments that have been missed in 2020. I continue to ask myself so many questions.

Are we there yet? Where is there? What do we do next? What should we celebrate? Am I making the right decisions?

I know it’s not going to look like what it looked like before, but what does it look like? More importantly what could it look like?

I’m waiting for the walls to give me answers, the walls still aren’t talking. But there is a feeling of peace in these offices that I haven’t felt in quite some time.

I sit and just look around, I feel gratitude. I feel gratitude that we still have walls and a foundation to grow from here and I’ll continue to make only the decisions that bring joy.

You have that same opportunity.

Keep taking each small step up the ladder even though you cannot see past the clouds. The clouds may not be heavy anymore. Maybe they are just grey. It feels like a new phase is coming. There will be joy in this phase.

Because at the end of the day, what is life without joy?

Joy is essential.
